आज का श्लोक,
’शूद्रस्य’ / ’śūdrasya’

’शूद्रस्य’ / ’śūdrasya’ - शूद्र वर्ण के व्यक्ति का,

अध्याय 18,  श्लोक 44,

कृषिगौरक्ष्यवाणिज्यं वैश्यकर्म स्वभावजम् ।
परिचर्यात्मकं कर्म शूद्रस्यापि स्वभावजम् ॥

(कृषिगौरक्ष्यवाणिज्यं वैश्यकर्म स्वभावजम् ।
परिचर्यात्मकम् कर्म शूद्रस्य अपि स्वभावजम् ॥)

भावार्थ :
कृषि और गौपालन, व्यापार तथा वस्तु-विनिमय का व्यवहार करना तथा इस माध्यम से उचित रीति से आजीविका अर्जित करना ये सभी वैश्य के लिए स्वाभाविक कर्म हैं । इसी प्रकार से, सब वर्णों की परिचर्या रूपी सेवा करना शूद्र के लिए स्वाभाविक कर्म है ।

’शूद्रस्य’ / ’śūdrasya’ - of the service class of the society,

Chapter 18, śloka 44,

kṛṣigaurakṣyavāṇijyaṃ
vaiśyakarma svabhāvajam |
paricaryātmakaṃ karma
śūdrasyāpi svabhāvajam ||

(kṛṣigaurakṣyavāṇijyaṃ
vaiśyakarma svabhāvajam |
paricaryātmakam karma
śūdrasya api svabhāvajam ||)

Meaning :
Agriculture, rearing the cattle, trade and commerce, are the tendencies natural ’āśrama-dharma’ to a 'vaiśya', and service of other three classes is the ordained duty and tendencies of one, natural to a 'śūdra'.

(Note :
These are the ideal conditions and no one can deny that the  'social' reality don't quite match the 'ideal conditions'. But even then, one could determine for himself, what tendencies are the prominent ones there in his mind and spirit, which one is driven by.  And one can then pursue accordingly the ’āśrama-dharma’ which he finds most suitable to him.) It may be further noted that vedika division of ’āśrama-dharma’ is not based strictly upon the caste in which a person is born, but the tendencies of the body-mind only. Though at the same time, caste plays a significant role also. It is for the society as a whole to decide, to what extent and how to let the individuals prosper and achieve their best in life.
