आज का श्लोक,

अध्याय 10, श्लोक 20,

अहमात्मा गुडाकेश सर्वभूताशयस्थितः ।
अहमादिश्च मध्यं च भूतानामन्त एव च ॥
--
(अहम् आत्मा गुडाकेश सर्वभूताशयस्थितः ।
अहम् आदिः च मध्यं च भूतानाम् अन्तः एव च ॥)
--
भावार्थ :
हे गुडाकेश (अर्जुन)! मैं ’आत्मा’, समस्त भूतों के हृदय में अन्तर्यामी होकर अवस्थित हूँ  । तथा समस्त भूतों का आदि, मध्य एवं अन्त भी मैं ही (हूँ)  ।

टिप्पणी :
’गुडाका’ अर्थात् निद्रा, निद्रा पर विजय प्राप्त होने के कारण अर्जुन को यह संबोधन प्राप्त हुआ । गुडाकेश का एक अन्य अर्थ है घने केश हैं जिसके ।

Chapter 10, śloka  20,

ahamātmā guḍākeśa
sarvabhūtāśayasthitaḥ |
ahamādiśca madhyaṃ ca
bhūtānāmanta eva ca ||
--
(aham ātmā guḍākeśa
sarvabhūtāśayasthitaḥ |
aham ādiḥ ca madhyaṃ ca
bhūtānām antaḥ eva ca ||)

Meaning :
O  (arjuna)! I ever abide in the innermost core of the hearts of all beings (as consciousness). I AM the beginning, the middle and also the end of all beings.

Notes :
1. In saṃskṛta, guḍāka means slumber / in-attention. guḍākeśa is one who has conquered in-attention.
2. It is easy to see that 'consciousness' is the first intimation of the 'Self'. 'Self' and 'consciousness' are identical, but then comes up a 'self' that is the whole trouble.
