आज का श्लोक, ’वर्षम्’ / ’varṣam’

’वर्षम्’ / ’varṣam’ - वर्ष (12 मास का), या वर्षाकाल (4 मास का),

अध्याय 9, श्लोक 19,

तपाम्यहमहं वर्षं निगृह्णाम्युत्सृजामि च ।
अमृतं चैव मृत्युश्च सदसच्चाहमर्जुन ॥

(तपामि अहम् अहम् वर्षम् निगृह्णामि उत्सृजामि च ।
अमृतम् च मृत्युः च सत्-असत्-च अहम् अर्जुन ॥)

भावार्थ : हे अर्जुन !मैं ही तपता हूँ  (क्योंकि तप ब्रह्म का स्वभाव है) मैं ही वर्ष (काल के प्रमाण पर, सूर्य के बारह मास के आकाशीय राशि-परिभ्रमण के अनुसार) को रोकता (धारण कर रखता) हूँ और पुनः उत्सृजन (वर्षा) भी करता हूँ । अमृत / जीवन, एवं मृत्यु  / जीवन का विलय, और सत् एवं असत् भी मैं ही हूँ ।

’वर्षम्’ / ’varṣam’  - The year (of 12 months), The rains,

Chapter 9, śloka 19,

tapāmyahamahaṃ varṣaṃ 
nigṛhṇāmyutsṛjāmi ca |
amṛtaṃ caiva mṛtyuśca
sadasaccāhamarjuna ||

(tapāmi aham aham varṣam 
nigṛhṇāmi utsṛjāmi ca |
amṛtam ca mṛtyuḥ ca
sat-asat-ca aham arjuna ||)

Meaning :
I emit the heat, I do 'tapas' and emerge out in the form of Heat, I hold the waters and, I AM The rains and I AM the year that comes into being because of the rains and heat. And I gather and release the waters. I AM the Life Immortal, and the death as well. And I AM, O arjuna ! Reality Immanent (sat) and the Manifest (asat) as well.
