आज का श्लोक, ’वसवः’ / ’vasavaḥ’

’वसवः’ / ’vasavaḥ’  - (8) वसु,

अध्याय 11, श्लोक 22,

रुद्रादित्या वसवो ये च साध्या
विश्वेऽश्विनौ मरुतश्चोष्मपाश्च ।
गन्धर्वयक्षासुरासिद्धसङ्घा
वीक्षन्ते त्वां विस्मिताश्चैव सर्वे ॥

(रुद्रादित्याः वसवः ये च साध्याः
विश्वे अश्विनौ मरुतः च ऊष्मपाः च ।
गन्धर्वयक्षासुरसिद्धसङ्घाः
वीक्षन्ते त्वाम् विस्मिताः च एव सर्वे ॥)

भावार्थ :
(11) रुद्र और (12) आदित्य, (8) वसु, साध्यगण (तपस्वी), विश्वेदेव, दोनों अश्विनीकुमार, मरुद्गण, गन्धर्व, यक्ष, असुर तथा सिद्धों के समुदाय ये सभी विस्मित होकर आपको  ध्यान से देखते हैं ।

टिप्पणी :

पिछले श्लोक में भगवान् श्रीकृष्ण कह चुके हैं कि ’मेरे शत-शत, सहस्र सहस्र रूपों को देखो ।’
2. :
आपःधरो ध्रुवश्च सोमश्च अहश्चैवानिलोऽनलः ।
प्रत्यूषश्च प्रभासश्च वसवोष्टविति स्मृताः ॥
अर्थ :
जलाशय, ध्रुव तारा, सोम (चन्द्र), दिन, वायु तथा अग्नि, प्रत्यूष वेला तथा प्रभास वेला (सूर्योदय के तुरन्त पहले का और तुरन्त बाद का समय) ये आठ ’वसु’ *कहे जाते हैं ।

’वसवः’ / ’vasavaḥ’  - The (8) vasu*,

Chapter 11, śloka 22,

rudrādityā vasavo ye ca sādhyā
viśve:'śvinau marutaścoṣmapāśca |
gandharvayakṣāsurāsiddhasaṅghā
vīkṣante tvāṃ vismitāścaiva sarve ||

(rudrādityāḥ vasavaḥ ye ca sādhyāḥ
viśve aśvinau marutaḥ ca ūṣmapāḥ ca |
gandharvayakṣāsurasiddhasaṅghāḥ
vīkṣante tvām vismitāḥ ca eva sarve ||)

Meaning :
11 rudra (manifestations of Lord shiva), 12 āditya, (forms of The Sun), 8 vasu (Earthly Lords of 8 directions), vishvedevA ( a group of divine entities, that includes 5 mahābhūta, 5 prāṇa, and some other cosmic entities that serve as bridge between humans and (pitṛ) Manes, ashvinau (2 equinox), marutaḥ (The airy elemental Lords) gandharva (the celestial musicians), yakṣa-s ( the kind of devatA with spiritual powers and human form, visible or invisible to ordinary people, as they wish.) asura (those who have different cultural ethos and values than sura) and siddha (Adepts, arhat), All look at you with attention, in wonder.

प्रत्यूषश्च प्रभासश्च वसवोष्टविति स्मृताः ॥

āpaḥdharo dhruvaśca somaśca ahaścaivānilo:'nalaḥ |
pratyūṣaśca prabhāsaśca vasavoṣṭaviti smṛtāḥ ||

The water-reservoir, The Polar-star, The Moon,  the day-time, Air and Fire, the dawn (time just before the sun-rise) and the time when the sun has just come-up, are termed as 8 vasu, divine / celestial entities that sustain the nature and the whole life.

 2. :
rudrā are the many forms of shiva / mahādeva, as described in veda and purāṇa.
yakṣa are the spiritual entities possessing occult powers.
rakṣa are the monstruous humans with great strength and full of desires and vigour.
vasu-s are the eight spiritual / celestial dignities that are Lords of, and look after eight directions.
